The realization of a seventeen year dream, Roy Gandy of Rega has recorded a new all-analog LP showcasing Christine Collister. Regarded as one of the UK’s most soulful voices, The Times has proclaimed “she can sing the birds down from the trees,” Collister teams up with Gary Bennet and other artists to perform an eclectic blend of new and old pop classics.
Recorded in Gandy’s home studio over an eighteen month period, the album "Love" is an audiophile delight. The recording was made using a system created and assembled by Rega. The system featured a modified Studer A80 analogue 8-track recorder, mic-preamps built by Rega and a mixer called ”Thunderbird 3” designed and built by Rega head engineer Terry "Brains" Bateman (the creator of the Rega Apollo). For vocals a Pearl CC-22 microphone was used for its unique ability to resist sibilance. Mix down to stereo was also performed on a Rega built mixer and monitored using a variety of Rega speakers.
Mastering to vinyl was executed by Ray Staff of Alchemy Soho. Ray is highly regarded in the UK press for his recent audiophile vinyl releases, and has worked with David Bowie, Elton John, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. While working with Sony he helped in the development of their archiving system. He also created a three sided album for Monty Python!
The amazing sonic qualities of this LP are matched only by the extraordinary musicianship. All tracks were recorded as live performances. The energy and realism is astounding, capturing her voice as whole and unadulterated as ever recorded. Featuring songs written by Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush, Nick Drake, Cole Porter and Collister herself, this album not only can bring you untold musical joy but can serve to demonstrate how great recorded sound can be!
